Abbateggio is a village in Abruzzo in prov. of PE, of 440 inhabitants at 450 m asl, within the Majella National Park; it preserves an interesting inhabited center and is considered among the "Most Beautiful Villages of Italy". The territory includes the splendid Giumentina Valley rich in extensive forests and populated by protected fauna; famous tholos huts in dry stone, once a shelter for shepherds and farmers. A few years ago the Paleolithic Ecomuseum was inaugurated, it testifies the human activity in the area from the Neanderthals to the Middle Ages. In the village of Abbateggio there are the municipal offices, the Post office, a bar, a grocery store and some restaurants nearby. Public connections are guaranteed by the bus service with the nearby towns and the city of Pescara. Just over 10 km away is the center of Caramanico with its famous thermal baths. The motorway and the railway station are about 10 km away, the airport and the city of Pescara with the beaches of the Adriatic Sea at 35/40 km, the ski centers at 25/30 km. Rome is 90 minutes away by car.
